Audio
Half (if not more) of the power of film and multimedia productions is the audio behind the images. It's really a perfect marriage. Music and sound bring out such power and emotion and passion from the images. The whole is definitely greater than the sum of it's parts. The crafting of the soundtrack is always one of the funnest parts of the creative process for shows. Here you'll find two audio gems from my past: Slideshow soundtracks, and the trilogy of investigative reporting comedy podcasts (we didn't call them "podcasts" back in the '80s) created by my brothers and me. Welcome to the wacky world of Roving Rich, Groundwire Gary, and Dolby Dean. Low budget radio storytelling with the best homemade sfx you'll ever hear.
Dean's Slideshow Soundtracks
1978-1987
Listen to The Intro, it's short and gives you complete context for these soundtracks. I compiled this list of early soundtracks in 1989, which is the year I first started dabbling in video. I have slides from these shows, but don't have the full production captured in video like I do for the ones on my film page. But the soundtracks are super fun, especially my 11-year old voice in my first slideshow.
The Roving Zone
1984
In this first installment of the trilogy, Roving Rich hires young investigative reporter Dolby Dean to join the search for long lost brother Gary. Brother Rich provides an extensive, and quite impressive history of radio in the introduction. He then reviews how this investigative reporting audio comedy got started back when Rich was a youngster, teaming up with brother Gary, probably circa 1970s.
Mission Improbable
1987
In the second installment of the trilogy of brotherly comedy, Groundwire Gary joins Roving Rich on an adventure to find Dolby Dean, who has disappeared after Roving & Dolby fail to find Groundwire in Alaska in the original Roving Zone adventure. Circa 1987.
The Revenge of Photobutt
2003
After a hiatus of nearly 15 years, Groundwire Gary & Dolby Dean team up to embark on the third adventure of the trilogy, this time to attempt to locate Roving Rich. Classic cameos from Mom & Dad, Katey, and young Carly & Susanna.
